Please continue to check back for ongoing updates

Most Recent Update - March 2026:

We are actively pursuing a partnership with a nationally recognized chemical exposure law firm with a history of success and the resources to pursue this claim.

The process of obtaining the necessary experts is actively moving forward. We will likely have some further information within the next 30 days.

Of course, this is not a 100% guarantee that we will get cases to the court, but they seemed very optimistic and are willing to invest a substantial amount of time and money in continuing the investigation.

In addition, we have once again contacted Congressman Bresnahan’s office. They have agreed to raise our concerns directly with the Pennsylvania Department of Health when they meet with them again. We asked them to seek clear answers on three critical issues:

1.) The status of the Geographic Health Survey that PA DOH promised our community in 2024.
2.) A 1993 PA DHHS letter stating there were “no reported chemical illnesses,” despite documented employee complaints and at least one reported death at that time.
3.) Interdepartmental communication regarding the 1999 Fern Hill drum discovery and excavation, and why the PA DEP allegedly never informed the EPA.

We are pushing forward, demanding accountability, and refusing to let this issue be ignored.

PAST EVENTS

Meeting with Congressman Bresnahan - JunE 10, 2025

Thank You for Hearing Us Out!

We had the opportunity to meet with Congressman Rob Bresnahan’s staff, and we are truly grateful for their time and willingness to hear us out.

We laid out everything: the buried toxic drums at the Fern Hill warehouse, its dangerous proximity to Acorn Hill Estates, the long list of DEP and OSHA violations, and the conflicting letter from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) that seems to ignore those serious issues.  We also made it clear that despite more than 200 confirmed cancer cases among former workers, not a single government agency has stepped in to help us except for the PA Dept of Health (PA DOH - Different from DHHS), who has offered to do a geographical study of cancer rates in the area.

We brought up the ongoing silence from the Borough of Olyphant, even after multiple attempts to reach out to Borough Manager CJ Mustachio, and the concerning response from the Pennsylvania State Police, who claim they have no records at all tied to a facility that operated for more than 40 years.

We told them our goals:
- We want this officially recognized by the Commonwealth as a disaster, so that victims and families can finally access medical or burial assistance.
- And we want a memorial statue placed at or near the site, so what happened here is never forgotten.

Their team listened respectfully, took notes, and assured us they would personally brief Congressman Bresnahan on all we shared. While we don’t yet know what will come next, we’re hopeful this is a step forward, and we sincerely thank them for hearing our voices.

We’ll continue fighting for accountability, support, and recognition, because these lives matter, and this story deserves to be told. We’re not giving up. We’ll keep knocking on doors and telling the truth until someone finally answers.

It has now been months since the meeting we had with Congressman Bresnahan's staff, and in that time, more of our former coworkers and neighbors have passed away while still waiting for answers.

Sep 16, 2025 - We have sent Congressman Bresnahan a follow-up email saying:

"Your team assured us Congressman Bresnahan would be briefed on our meeting, and we are writing now to respectfully ask if there has been any progress or discussion since our meeting. Even a small update would mean a great deal to the families who are holding onto hope that their voices are being heard."

Sep 30, 2025 - We heard back from Congressman Bresnahan's Office:

"Thank you for checking back. Our office has been in communication with the PA Department of Health regarding the site and information you shared.  We have additional discussions scheduled and will be back in touch following."

Oct 2, 2025 - We heard back from Congressman Bresnahan's Office:

"We will circle back following that upcoming meeting with PA DOH. If there is anything in addition to material you previously provided, please let us know and we can make sure to get to them as well."

Nov 17, 2025 - We have sent Congressman Bresnahan a follow-up email saying:

"We understand these matters take time, but even a brief update on whether the scheduled discussions have taken place, and whether any next steps have been identified would mean a great deal to the community.

Our group continues to gather documentation and firsthand accounts, and we remain committed to working collaboratively with your office. We deeply appreciate your engagement so far and respectfully ask if you could share any developments since your last message. Thank you again for your attention to this matter and for your continued efforts on behalf of the residents and families impacted."

Mar 6, 2026 - We heard back from Congressman Bresnahan's Office:

"We continue to actively engage with Commonwealth officials on the former Specialty Records/WEA Manufacturing/Cinram/Technicolor facility. PA Department of Health, the lead agency in this matter, recently requested to reschedule a meeting with our office.  Following that meeting, we will relay any feedback they provide. Further, if there is any additional information our office could relay to PA Department of Health on your behalf, please let us know."

We also reached out to David McCormick and John Fetterman with the same concerns. No Response as of yet.

This timeline, highlighting only a fraction of known incidents, strongly suggests a pattern of systemic neglect toward chemical safety and employee health protections.

This also outlines only a sample of the harmful chemicals mishandled at the WEA facility, along with some of their known health effects on those exposed.
